Our projects & programmes
To complement the impact of Fairtrade certification, we run innovative, producer-led programmes and projects that support our mission to promote fairer trading conditions.
Our initiatives are impact-oriented and time-bound, and designed so that farmers and workers can address their most pressing challenges. These include climate and environment (SDG13), inclusion of women and youth (SDG5 and SDG10), and human rights protection for workers and children (SDG 8).
Our programmes aim to support a greater number of farmers and workers to access the growing market for sustainably-produced products, and to achieve living incomes and living wages.
They are developed and operated in partnership with governments, NGOs, producers, researchers, and the private sector. Funding is provided externally by institutional donors or through commercial partners, or internally by Fairtrade alone.

Projects versus programmes – what’s the difference?
Fairtrade projects are specific, time-bound interventions to achieve a clearly defined objective, while programmes represent a broader, longer-term initiative to advance key thematic areas of our work. Often, multiple interrelated projects are being operated within a larger programme.

The Climate Academy
The Fairtrade Climate Academy is a farmer-centred training package that focuses particularly on the next generation of farmers, boosting their climate and environmental knowledge and increasing their understanding of the links between production, carbon emissions, and biodiversity. The objective of the Fairtrade Climate Academy is to strengthen farmers’ resilience against climate change and make their production more environmentally sustainable through improved agricultural practices and the use of alternative energy sources.
Partnerships
Sustainable change can’t be achieved by Fairtrade alone, but requires committed and long-term partnerships. Find out who our strategic and funding partners are.
