Monitoring the scope and benefits of Fairtrade: Africa and Middle East region - Monitoring report, 14th Edition
This report includes 2021 monitoring data for the Africa and Middle East region, as well as results of producer surveys. Producer organizations in Africa and the Middle East make up 34% of all Fairtrade certified organizations worldwide: by the end of 2021, there were 660 Fairtrade producer organizations in 28 countries throughout the region. More than 1.3 million farmers and workers in the region make up about 68% of the global total in the Fairtrade system. Producers in the region earned €64.7 million in Fairtrade Premium in 2021 to spend on projects of their choice. Cocoa is the highest selling Fairtrade product in the region, making up 62% of the Premium earned in 2021, followed by flowers and plants, coffee, and bananas.
