This report includes 2020 monitoring data for the Africa and Middle East region, as well as results of producer surveys. Producer organizations in Africa and the Middle East make up about one-third of all Fairtrade certified organizations worldwide: by the end of 2020, there were 627 Fairtrade producer organizations in 28 countries throughout the region. More than 1.3 million farmers and workers in the region make up about 69 percent of the global total in the Fairtrade system. Producers in the region earned €49.8 million in Fairtrade Premium in 2020 to spend on projects of their choice. Cocoa is the highest selling Fairtrade product in the region, followed by flowers, coffee, and bananas.
