  Our core advocacy program focuses on catalyzing government support and funding for advancing our mission to support producers disadvantaged by trade across Asia-Pacific region. Our interventions include influencing public policies and practices that promote fairer trading conditions for farmers and workers strengthening their position in the global supply chain. We aim to strengthen our visibility and credibility with government stakeholders at national, state, and local levels through active participation in key forums, facilitating greater access to government programs and resources for producers.

  Capacity Building for Fairtrade Movement Leaders in Advocacy

  We are taking significant steps to strengthen the advocacy capacities of Fairtrade movement leaders, including representatives from producer organizations, union leaders, FT NAPP consultants, and staff. Through various ongoing projects, we are equipping movement leaders with the skills and knowledge to effectively advocate for policies and programs that support producers and workers.

  Our ongoing programs include a series of advocacy training workshops that focus on building technical expertise, leadership skills, and policy engagements to equip our producers with the tools to advocate for their rights. These initiatives also emphasize the importance of engaging with key government stakeholders, facilitating networking opportunities, and creating channels for advocacy at local, national, and regional levels. Through these initiatives we are fostering a culture of advocacy within our organization, ensuring responsibilities are shared across all levels while building on the existing momentum of these capacity-building efforts.

  Strengthening Partnerships, Alliances, and Networks for Advocacy

  At Fairtrade NAPP, we prioritize advocacy as a key tool for collaboration with stakeholders, enabling us to create a greater impact and long-term sustainability beyond what can be achieved through direct services alone. Recognizing the critical role partnerships play in fostering lasting change, NAPP is dedicated to building and strengthening strategic alliances and networks for advocacy.

  While some of our advocacy efforts are independently run by us, we also collaborate with diverse partners or alliances who share common goals to drive sustainable change. Our approach is flexible and responsive, ensuring we lead when necessary and strategically align our brand when supporting broader coalition efforts.

  As part of this commitment, NAPP develops annual, country-specific action plans across producer countries, tailored to local contexts and needs. These plans identify key products and advocacy areas, based on emerging opportunities and the potential for collaboration and joint action across countries. By continually strengthening these networks and partnerships, NAPP amplifies the reach and effectiveness of its advocacy work, driving meaningful, sustainable change for producers.

These plans involve identifying specific products and areas for advocacy, based on emerging opportunities and potential for cross-country collaboration and joint action.   Policy Review and Analysis for Asia Pacific Region

  Fairtrade NAPP also focuses on reviewing and analysing existing public policies and schemes in five key countries: the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Uzbekistan, and Sri Lanka. This initiative aims to assess current regulations and frameworks to identify areas for improvement, ensuring they are more supportive and beneficial to producers. By thoroughly analysing these policies, FT NAPP is better equipped to advocate for producer-friendly regulations that promote sustainable practices, fair trade, and improved livelihoods across the region.

  Position Paper on EU Regulations Affecting Fairtrade Supply Chains

  Fairtrade NAPP is committed to supporting global calls for sustainable supply chain initiatives that ensure fairness, inclusivity, and resilience for smallholder farmers and workers. Together with the Fairtrade movement, we have supported and signed position papers advocating for responsible trade policies, not only in response to EU regulations but also in broader efforts to create just and sustainable trade systems worldwide.

  While initiatives such as the European Green Deal and various corporate sustainability regulations aim to drive environmental and social improvements, they also pose new challenges for smallholder farmers. Therefore, we advocate for policies that provide fair and inclusive compliance measures, financial support for a just transition, and recognition of voluntary sustainability standards to prevent the marginalization of small-scale producers.

  Fairtrade NAPP also supports producer organizations in working towards compliance with EU legislation while continuing to call for the burden of compliance to be shared fairly.

  Beyond EU-specific regulations—such as the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the Organic Regulation, and the Forced Labour Regulation, we support global trade policies that foster ethical supply chains, promote fair pricing, and protect workers’ rights. Without adequate safeguards and financial support, trade policies risk excluding smallholders from markets, deepening economic inequalities.

  Aside from supporting these position papers, we advocate for a Global Green Deal that prioritizes fair trade, sustainability, and social justice. This commitment amplifies the voices of farmers and workers, secures the financial and technical resources they need, and ensures that global trade systems are inclusive, just, and sustainable for both people and the planet.
