Stronger together - smallholder farmers and Fairtrade
Fairtrade NAPP strives to support small-scale farmers and workers around the world. We work with more than 270 producer organisations, representing over 0.3 million smallholders and workers.

Smallholder farmers in the Asia-Pacific region are the backbone of the agricultural sector, representing around 80% of all farms producing a significant portion of the global food supply. Despite their importance, they face numerous challenges that hinder their ability to earn living incomes and improve their livelihoods. Limited access to premium markets and fair pricing often leaves these farmers with low returns.
Additionally, smallholders are highly vulnerable to climate change, with unpredictable weather, floods, and droughts affecting crop yields and income stability Many also lack access to affordable credit, with only 10-20% receiving formal financial support, restricting their ability to invest in quality inputs and improve productivity
Further challenges include poor infrastructure, limited access to extension services, and insecure land tenure. Addressing these barriers through improved market access, financial inclusion, and resilience-building initiatives is essential to helping smallholder farmers achieve living incomes and secure sustainable livelihoods.
