Workers' rights across the Asia-Pacific region present a complex landscape, characterized by significant disparities in labour conditions, legal protections, and economic opportunities. The region is home to over 4 billion people, encompassing both some of the world's wealthiest nations and countries with high poverty rates. Labour migrants and their families constitute around 60% of international migrants worldwide, with Asia and the Pacific hosting 17.2% of this population. Across the globe, workers contribute tirelessly to our food systems and economies, yet they often face exploitation, unsafe working conditions, and insufficient wages. It’s time for us to take a stand.

Here’s how you can help make a difference:

  • Raise Awareness: Educate yourself and others about the challenges plantation workers face. Share their stories to highlight the need for change.

  • Support Fair Trade Practices: Choose Fairtrade-certified products that support fair wages and safe working conditions for plantation workers. Your purchasing power can drive meaningful change.

  • Advocate for Strong Labour Policies: Encourage local and national governments to implement and enforce labor rights that protect workers on plantations. Your voice can influence policy changes.

  • Engage with Brands: Reach out to brands and urge them to commit to ethical sourcing practices. Let them know that consumers care about workers' rights and expect transparency in their supply chains.

  • Support Workers’ Organizations: Contribute to or collaborate with organizations that empower plantation workers and advocate for their rights. Your support can help amplify their voices.

Let’s stand united for those who labour to bring food to our tables and ensure they receive the respect and rights they deserve.
