Our Strategy with Regional Focus

Fairtrade NAPP operates by aligning its regional strategy with Fairtrade International’s Global Strategy, which is built on five key pillars. The strategy aims to address key challenges, such as climate change and market access, while driving sustainable development and improving the livelihoods of small-scale producers. By aligning with these pillars, Fairtrade NAPP supports farmers and workers in securing better prices, building stronger communities, and improving their overall quality of life.

 Empowering Farmers and Workers

Fairtrade NAPP plays a critical role in supporting producers to comply with internationally recognised Fairtrade standards, which encompass social, economic, and environmental criteria. The certification process also allows producers to improve their compliance with evolving trade regulations and new standards, such as those focused on human rights, environmental sustainability, and transparency in supply chains.

At the core of Fairtrade NAPP’s mission is the empowerment of farmers and workers. Through training, capacity building, and support, Fairtrade NAPP helps producers become more self-sufficient, develop sustainable farming practices, and improve their decision-making abilities. The goal is to strengthen producer organizations so that they can thrive in global markets while ensuring fair wages and ethical working conditions.

Growth and Innovation:

Growth and innovation are central to Fairtrade NAPP’s approach to retaining and expanding market access for its producers. This involves staying competitive by continuously improving product standards, expanding into new markets, and diversifying offerings. This ensures that farmers and workers receive fair prices for their products, along with premiums that can be reinvested in their communities.

Fairtrade NAPP also works to strengthen the Fairtrade brand by educating consumers and businesses on the importance of purchasing Fairtrade-certified products and its impacts on the lives of farmers and workers across Asia and Pacific region.  It focuses on market retention and expansion by developing innovative strategies to keep its producers competitive in the global market. This includes enhancing product quality, diversifying product offerings, and ensuring compliance with international standards.

Advocacy and Citizen engagement:

Fairtrade NAPP plays a crucial role in advocating for Fairtrade policies and practices at national and regional levels. By engaging with governments, businesses, and other stakeholders, NAPP promotes ethical trade practices, drives policy reforms, and encourages responsible consumer behaviour. This advocacy helps create a more equitable trading environment for small-scale producers and supports the development of policies that protect farmers' and workers' rights.

In addition, it encourages citizen engagement by mobilizing responsible consumers who demand ethically produced goods. This creates a ripple effect, influencing policy reforms and raising awareness about the importance of fair trade in the Asia & Pacific region.

Strategic Partnership and Innovation: Launchpad for the future

To secure a sustainable future, Fairtrade NAPP focuses on forming strategic partnerships that drive innovation and growth. By collaborating with governments, NGOs, businesses, and other stakeholders, NAPP enhances its capacity to address challenges faced by producers and is able to leverage resources and expertise to enhance its programs and support the livelihoods of farmers and workers.

These partnerships help bring innovative solutions to the table, create opportunities for growth, introduce new services tailored to the needs of producers, and ensure that Fairtrade’s principles are integrated across industries and supply chains.

By securing financial resources, NAPP is able to invest in innovative technologies that enhance supply chain transparency and create a more sustainable and equitable trading system, ultimately enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of small-scale producers in the region.
