About Us
Fair trade is a way of shopping and doing business differently. It changes the way trade works by prioritizing better prices, decent working conditions and a fairer deal for farmers and workers. See the people behind this photo.
Fair trade brings people together
Many of the products we enjoy every day – coffee, chocolate, bananas – have traveled thousands of miles over oceans and countless hands to land in stores in the United States. Fair trade brings together all of the people – the farmers, traders, brands, retailers and shoppers – to create a more equitable world through trade.
- Over 2 million farmers and workers worldwide are Fairtrade certified
- 50% of the voting members at our General Assembly are Fairtrade farmers and workers.
- 2,500+ brands offer 36,000 Fairtrade certified products globally.
Fair trade fights inequality
We are the US branch of the largest and most recognized fair trade system in the world – Fairtrade International. We work to create a world where all farmers and workers can enjoy secure and sustainable livelihoods so that they can thrive and have the freedom to decide on their own futures. We do this by supporting and challenging US businesses to prioritize the people and places that are behind the products we use every day. By improving the terms of trade – a notorious driver of inequality – we put money back in the hands of farmers and workers, which they choose how to spend.
